Event visuals for JoyConf, Storyblok's first flagship user conference. The work played on the main stage across the run of the event, cut and paced for a room rather than for a browser window, and built to sit alongside a speaker instead of competing with one.

Conference screens are a format with their own rules, and most of them are about restraint.

Built for the room

A stage screen is watched from forty feet back, in the dark, by an audience already listening to a person talk. It has to read in a glance, hold for as long as the point takes, and then get out of the way. Detail that would reward a second look on a website is simply noise at that distance.

So the work is built around scale and legibility first. Shapes carry further than texture, movement carries further than either, and anything that needs to be read has to survive being seen once, briefly, from the back of a hall.

The result is a set of pieces that belong to the event rather than to a showreel: made for one room, one running order and one audience, on the day.
