BUDDE

PIANO, a 3D product film made with BUDDE. An instrument is among the most familiar objects there is, which makes it one of the hardest to photograph freshly: everyone already knows what it looks like, so showing it accurately is not the same as showing it at all.

The familiarity is the difficulty and also the opening.

A familiar object, unfamiliarly

An object this well known can be taken apart, abstracted and rebuilt without ever becoming unreadable, because the audience fills in whatever is missing. A less familiar subject would not survive the same treatment.

So the work can spend its time on form, light and rhythm rather than on explaining what is being looked at, which is a freedom most product films do not get.

Built and rendered in full, with the instrument treated as a subject rather than as a product shot.
